Our mission is 3-fold:

  • Communication and outreach for special projects
  • Medical writing, particularly in the pharmaceutical realm
  • Contracts with government agencies that focus on health

Community Outreach

At Environmental Health Consulting we believe passionately that many individual and public decisions are best made when based on an understanding of the relevant science. Consequently, we believe in science education and communication as it relates to our smallest citizens as well as our most informed policy makers. To support that goal, we have developed several outreach efforts.

In addition to designing innovative curriculum, we have staff members who have taken classes in education and volunteer for opportunities to teach science in nontraditional settings either through dissection projects at schools, recycling demonstrations for children's groups, or community presentations on the risks and benefits of fish consumption.

Environmental Health Consulting was hired by the Oak Park Department of Public Health (Illinois) in 1999 to provide support for a residential site, Barrie Park, that was found to be contaminated with coal tar and PAH. EHC consulted with the Director of Public Health and prepared a streamlined risk assessment describing exposure pathways and summarizing toxicity data (volatiles and particulates). Dr. Pullen then presented this same risk assessment at a public meeting for the Village of Oak Park. Since then, EHC has been hired on several other occasions to consult with the Village on environmental exposure issues.

Environmental Health Consulting was hired to facilitate a workshop to examine the scope of the problem of elemental mercury exposures in children and identify opportunities for prevention. Participants in the workshop included county health department officials, state health and environmental officials, and federal environmental officials. In addition to facilitating the workshop, EHC prepared a workshop summary report that included a brief summary of the presentations and discussion issues as well as a list of participant phone numbers and email addresses.

Other EHC Outreach Initiatives:

  • Public Health Issues
  • Girl Scouts of the USA
    • Contact Marisa J. Naujokas, Ph.D. regarding activities with scouts of all ages, particularly for help with the Environmental Health Badge.
  • In addition to being a key contributor to the TEACH database and Web site, Dr. Pullen has created a Web site for the Prader-Willi Syndrome (PWS) community. PWS Notes, a community blog, is designed for the rapid dissemination of early therapeutic information to parents of children who have just received a diagnosis of PWS.
